Children’s Parliament Workshop at PALAVAI

PALAVAI organized a Children’s Parliament Workshop from October 11 to 13, 2024, for 62 children (18 boys and 44 girls) from the Evening Study Centres. Led by Mr. Paul Thomas, a Children’s Parliament trainer, the workshop aimed to integrate children within the village, foster unity, and establish new Children’s Parliaments at the study centres.
The workshop sensitized children to the importance of advocating for their basic needs and rights while strengthening their relationships with village leaders, youth, government officials, and community members. Through interactive sessions, children gained confidence in public speaking, learned about parliamentary processes, and became socially responsible. Representatives for Block and District-level Children’s Parliaments were also elected during the event.
The programme had a lasting impact, with regular meetings of the Children’s Parliament now established and improved relationships between villagers and children. Participants also learned how to intervene effectively to address community needs and rights.
This initiative is part of the From Factory to School project and serves as a stepping stone for empowering children as active contributors to their communities.
