A Journey of Struggle, Separation, and Reunion

Javed, a 13-year-old boy from Pandua village in West Bengal, left his home with the hope of earning money to support his mother and brother. His mother, unable to   him to stay in school, reluctantly agreed. Javed traveled to Ahmadabad with fellow villagers, securing a job in a gold jewelry shop. However, soon after, he found himself subjected to cruel treatment by the shop owner’s wife, who beat him and overworked him. Unable to bear the abuse, Javed ran away and eventually found refuge with Mr. Azad, a contractor in Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, Javed’s mother became frantic when she realized her son was missing. She reported him as a missing person to the police. The case was eventually taken up by ISI Bangalore and forwarded to JMS. JMS began their investigation, and through contacts, they learned that Javed was staying with Mr. Azad in Coimbatore. Despite Mr. Azad assuring them that Javed was happy and well cared for, JMS insisted that the boy should return to his mother.

The situation escalated when the child helpline and police intervention forced Mr Azad to send Javed to Mr Sujon’s place, where he was picked up and brought to a children’s home in Coimbatore. From there, Javed was transferred to Royapuram Children’s Home in Chennai, and eventually, after further coordination with the Child Welfare Committee, he was sent back to his home in Hugli, West Bengal.

On September 15, 2022, after months of uncertainty, Javed was finally reunited with his mother. The relief and joy in his mother’s voice were immeasurable when she confirmed that her son had safely returned home. This heartwarming reunion was a testament to the tireless efforts of JMS, child helplines, and everyone who worked to ensure Javed’s safe return to his family.
