From Despair to Hope

Susila, driven by the pain of watching her family suffer, sought a way out of poverty by migrating to Kuwait with the help of a middleman named Dhayalan. However, what she thought would be an opportunity quickly turned into a nightmare. Her employer, indifferent to her humanity, forced her to work long hours, sweeping and mopping 25 rooms every day without adequate food or rest. Despite her tireless efforts, the emotional and physical toll was overwhelming. She found herself trapped in a job that offered no escape, with hunger and abuse becoming her daily companions.

In her darkest moment, Susila even contemplated suicide, unable to bear the suffering. But even in despair, she was not fully defeated. She reached out to the middleman who had brought her to Kuwait, hoping for rescue, only to face more threats and extortion. “Work until the contract expires, or pay two lakh rupees to be freed,” he told her, trapping her further.

Fortunately, Susila’s story took a turn for the better when the Indian embassy and the Welfare Association of Indian Labourers, with the support of JMMEx, stepped in to bring her back to India. Like a lost passenger rescued from the sea, Susila found hope again. Though the middleman continued his demands, she now seeks legal support to bring him to justice. Her journey from the depths of despair to safety serves as a testament to her resilience, and she now stands on the path to reclaim her life, leaving the darkness behind for the light of a brighter future.
