Rescue Mission of Migrants in Malaysia
The Jesuit Migrants Ministry External (JMMEx) conducted a rescue mission on October 23, 2024, aimed at assisting vulnerable migrants in Malaysia. This mission was a collaborative effort involving JMMEx team headed by Fr. Velankanni, along with Mrs Mangalam from TENAGANITA, Malaysia, and Ms Malar from the Labour Indian Embassy in Malaysia. Their coordinated efforts successfully facilitated the return of Mrs. Davamani, Mrs. Shanthi, Mrs. Rani, and their family members to India.
The objective of this mission was to bring hope to distressed migrants by reuniting them with their families and to raise awareness of the risks posed by fraudulent agents. The operation brought immense relief and joy to the rescued individuals and their families. Upon returning home, they expressed deep gratitude and recognized the dangers of trusting unverified agents.
A significant outcome of this initiative was the realization of the importance of swiftly obtaining family details for efficient communication during a rescue. This experience also underscored the value of maintaining a designated contact person at shelter homes to facilitate travel arrangements.
This mission marked a critical step toward safeguarding vulnerable migrant workers and underscored JMMEx’s commitment to upholding the dignity and rights of all migrants in distress. The ministry aims to continue similar rescue operations and spread awareness about migration risks to help prevent further exploitation.
